Nimbus Engineering

Nimbus Engineering, a cutting-edge innovative technology company spun off from Purdue University, specializes in optical energy storage and transmission. Built on a solid foundation of patented technologies, Nimbus Engineering aims to revolutionize how energy is stored and transmitted. Its pioneering optical wireless power systems and groundbreaking photon battery technology deliver unparalleled efficiency, safety, and longevity. Committed to pushing the boundaries of modern energy infrastructure, the company develops innovative solutions that are sustainable, scalable, and high-performance.

Traditional batteries often face the issue of limited charge-discharge cycles, leading to frequent replacements and higher maintenance costs. Chemically based batteries are costly in production, maintenance, and disposal, affecting overall economic viability. Moreover, batteries contain hazardous substances that can harm the environment if not properly handled. The extraction of materials such as lithium and cobalt has significant ecological and social impacts.

The innovative photon battery technology offered by Nimbus Engineering is designed to be cost-effective from the start. The robust and durable design of its systems minimizes the need for maintenance and replacement, thereby further reducing long-term costs. The photon battery technology provides an extraordinary lifespan, capable of maintaining minimal degradation over millions of charge-discharge cycles. The extended lifespan means fewer replacements and less downtime. The photon battery technology utilizes abundant and easily accessible materials on Earth, reducing reliance on scarce resources. By employing non-toxic and recyclable materials, its solutions significantly lower environmental impact compared to traditional batteries. The use of common materials ensures stable and predictable supply chains, reducing the risks of material shortages and price fluctuations.

In the photon battery energy storage system, the edge of each photon battery cell contains an array of light-emitting diodes (LEDs) fixed on a light guide plate and coated with phosphor material. The phosphor can absorb light, store optical energy, and re-emit light over time, similar to the functionality of conventional batteries. The front side of the phosphor-coated light guide plate is covered with a thin-film photovoltaic panel, which collects the light emitted by the phosphor to generate direct current (DC) electricity. This new scalable solid-state energy storage system possesses remarkable characteristics unachievable or absent in chemical battery systems. Its greatest advantage over existing technologies is its undeniable long lifespan, enabling millions of charge-discharge cycles. The chemical stability, high heat resistance, and non-toxic properties of the phosphor make it suitable for a wide range of applications, offering customers a reliable and safe alternative to traditional energy storage and lighting solutions. The photon battery energy storage system from Nimbus Engineering can be applied in energy storage power stations and wireless optoelectronic fast charging.
